Justice for Olga Fonseca Jimerez
The Kenyan police on Tuesday launched a major manhunt on a key suspect in the murder of Venezuelan top diplomat in Nairobi last week.
Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe also circulated photos of Hussein Nderitu Abbas aka Mohammed who is wanted by the police in connection to the murder of Olga Fonseca Jimerez in Nairobi on July 27.
“Muhammed Ahmed Mohammed Hassan is wanted by the Kenya Police Criminal Investigations Department Nairobi Area in connection with a case of murder involving the late Olga Fonsesca Jimenez who was until her tragic death, the Charge D’affairs Venezuelan Embassy in Nairobi,” Kiraithe said.
He called on members who volunteer crucial information that may lead to the arrest of Mohamed who is a medical doctor.
“Any person with information on his whereabouts is requested to report to the nearest police station or police officer. We also wish to inform the public that a warrant of arrest has been issued by a court of law on July 31,” Kiraithe said.
The latest development came a day after First Secretary at the Venezuelan embassy Nairobi, Dwight Saragay, was arraigned in court but the prosecutor applied for more time as the police finalize investigations.
Saragay, arrested on Saturday after the authorities waived his diplomatic immunity, is also being treated as a key suspect in the murder of the 57-year-old Jimerez who was acting as ambassador at the time of her death.
Two Kenyan private security guards who were guarding the deceased’s residence at the time of her death were also charged on Monday for failing to stop the envoy’s killing.
Bernard Owino and Eliud Kimutai faced charges of failing to use any reasonable means to stop Jimerez’s murder. However, the two pleaded not guilty and were released on 1,200 U.S. dollar cash bail.
