A University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) student was stabbed dead by one of two motorcycle-riding men in Los Banos, Laguna early Sunday morning, the police said.
Supt. Dante Novicio, Los Banos police chief, in a report to Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz, Laguna provincial police director, identified the victim as Bernard Penaranda, 19, a BS Agriculture student.
Novicio said Penaranda, a member of the Youth for Christ, U.P. Entomology Society and Makiling Ultimate Club, was attacked by his unidentified assailant at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Witnesses told police that two men riding on a motorcycle held up Penaranda and two companions along F.O. Santos St. in Umali Subdivision, adding that one of the suspects stabbed Penaranda once in the chest.
Penaranda’s two companions rushed him to the Los Banos Doctors Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival, Novicio said.
