Construction of temporary housing for survivors of the 9.0-magnitutde earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan March 11 started Monday in 12 places in Miyagi Prefecture.
Workers started developing roads for construction work.
Some 1,110 units of temporary housing will be initially constructed out of 10,000 ordered by the prefectural government.
The prefectural government selected the construction sites mainly in Pacific coastal areas hit hard by the tsunami.
Some 100 units each will be built in nines cities and towns, including Sendai, Ishinomaki and Kesennuma.
