Japan Earthquake – NGO Donation Scam

Would-be donations to those affected by the earthquake that hit Japan last March 11 are increasingly ending up in the pockets of fraudsters, National Police Agency officials said Thursday.

The agency has confirmed at least seven cases of fraud across Japan since the quake brought devastation to the northeast of the country.
The public is being asked to report any suspicious appeals to police, the officials said.

The cases include a fraudster pretending to represent a nonprofit organization urging people to donate through a bank account entirely unrelated to a quake appeal.
