Japan Department Store Goes Bankrupt After Earthquake

Nakasan, a department store operator in Aomori Prefecture, has filed for bankruptcy protection under the civil rehabilitation law, due in part to a sales plunge after the devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11, its president said Wednesday.

Sales tumbled as the disaster, which struck the Tohoku northeastern and Kanto eastern Japan regions, disrupted goods transportation networks, President Mitsuhide Mukainakano told a press conference.
