Japan Breaking News – Telephones Out Of Service

Some 485,000 fixed telephone lines of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corp. remained out of service on Saturday in quake-hit areas, mainly in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures, both northeastern Japan.

Communication services, including mobile phones, have been unavailable in many areas since the 8.8-magnitude earthquake, the strongest temblor on record in Japan, jolted wide areas of northern and eastern Japan on Friday afternoon and triggered tsunami waves on the country’s Pacific coast. – Jiji Press
