The Iloilo provincial government will soon have four more patrol boats to be deployed in the shores of Iloilo, particularly in the northern part, which according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. is where the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat focuses its effort being a more problematic area.
Gov. Defensor, in his press conference Thursday morning, said that by next week the two patrol boats that have been commissioned to be made by the provincial government could already be finished. The additional two more patrol boats will come from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
The governor said the additional patrol boats brought to six that can be used by the provincial Bantay Dagat.
“There would be a more effective and efficient patrol of our seas against those illegal fishermen,” Gov. Defensor said.
He said the Bantay Dagat recently apprehended fishermen on board F/B Maria Fe who were engaged in the destructive Danish seine fishing or Super Hulbot at the vicinity of marine waters of 332 meters off Bagalombi Island, Batad, Iloilo province.
The 18 fishermen or crews were led by their boat captain Ronilo Gallardo. They were all residents of Brgy. Banban, Batad. The fishing boat is allegedly owned/operated by Ma. Fe Managaytay of Brgy. Banban, Batad.
