Iloilo News: Flash Floods Hit Iloilo Philippines

Flash flood hit the Municipality of Lambunao in Iloilo province Wednesday afternoon, affecting 12 barangays and leaving behind one casualty.

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor said that the municipal mayor of Lambunao activated as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) because of the flash flood that also forced 18 families to be evacuated.

The affected barangays are Maribong, Bonbon, Balagiao, Malag-it, Caninguan, Walang, Pasig, Sagcup, Agtuman, Tranghawan, Alugmawa and Jayubo.
Arvin Losaria, municipal administrator of Lambunao, in an interview, identified the lone fatality as Nono Leysa who is a barangay tanod of Malag-it village.

The victim was crossing the Tagbacan river around 6 p.m. when he was carried away by the strong current of water and drowned. His body was discovered at the nearby Barangay Balagiao.

“The municipal government is extending burial assistance to the family of barangay tanod Leysa whose recovered body now lies in state at the funeral home in the town proper,” Losaria contended.

Further, the municipal administrator said that the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office is validating report of an additional 29 families from Barangay Alugmawa that were also affected by the flash flood.

Losaria said that one house has been reported damaged in Barangay Sagcup, Lambunao.
