The city chief executive here has reiterated his proposal to abolish the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) amidst another round of disagreement between the water district’s board of directors and the general manager.
“I don’t care what their personal differences are but all I want is for them to work and deliver sufficient potable water to the city of Iloilo,” Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said after expressing frustration over the latest caper at the MIWD office in the city.
GM Le Jayme Jalbuena refused to acknowledge and accept the suspension order issued by the board headed by Dr. Danilo Encarnacion. The water district general manager said he is not recognizing the present board as its composition is contrary to law.
Jalbuena reiterated that it should be the provincial governor of Iloilo who is authorized to appoint members of the board and not Mabilog.
However, Mabilog said the court has already decided on the issue and he is exercising his executive powers to appoint members of the MIWD board starting January 1, 2011. These include Encarnacion as new chairman, Adrian Moncada as vice chairman and members Celso Javelosa, Sergio Gonzalez and Bernadette Castellano with Atty. Hans Sayno as corporate secretary. – pna
