Nine people died on Tuesday while three others were wounded after a passenger jeep collided with a 14-wheeler truck along the national highway in Ilocos Norte province.
Sr. Supt. Marlou Chan, Ilocos Norte Provincial Police Office (PPO), said the passenger jeep with license plate number AVZ-924, driven by Ferdinand dela Cruz, was travelling toward west direction at around 7:30 a.m. when collided with a 14-wheeler truck along Barangay 18 in Sarat town.
Reports showed that the truck (TWG-104), driven by Venancio Agcaoili, was traversing the opposite lane of the highway when the accident happened.
Four passengers of the jeepney died on the spot, but only two of them were initially identified. They were Evelyn Canonizado and Jerica Duropan.
Declared dead on arrival at Dingras Hospital were Jeremy Burgos, Angelica Cruz and Cristel Romero while Dela Cruz and Ryl Austin Canonizado were also pronounced DOA in another hospital.
Those wounded and still under observation were Jane Ashley Pumaras, Joshua Bolibol and Steve Romero.
