Illegal drugs corrupting gov’t, prevents PHL from ‘taking off’ – Duterte
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Saturday tasked the military to work on his third “validated” list of current and former government officials and police involved in the illegal drugs trade.
“Ito na iyon, entire Republic of the Philippines: pulis, PO3, PO1, PO3, PO3, PO3, tapos may inspector. Ibigay ko ito sa Armed Forces, sa mga nandiyan. Ito iyong problema natin. Ang bayan ng Pilipinas hindi talaga umangat. Parang sa runway tayo, full blast lang, bomba na ng—ayaw talagang umangat. One, corruption sa gobyerno. Kita mo naman dito pati mga pulis, pati mga barangay…. Paano tayo aangat? Paano tayo aangat? Ito, talaga ganito ang buhay natin. Then corruption sa airport, diyan sa Customs, sa Immigration, pahirapan pa,” the President also said.
Duterte specifically identified Naguilian, La Union Mayor Reynaldo Flores as a validated high-value target.
He also mentioned Barangay Captain Boni Sultan, Lumati, Maasin, as well as (retired police) General (Vicente) Loot, who is now mayor of the town of Daanbantayan in Cebu province.
“Kagaya si Loot, Region 1, nandiyan iyong pangalan niya, Gen. Loot; Region 2, nandoon iyong pangalan niya; Region 3, nandoon iyong pangalan niya, Region 4 nandoon…Wherever he was assigned, he was into drugs – that is what it means.
The President said the corruption resulting from the illegal drugs trade has kept the country from taking off and affected not just many levels of government, but Filipino families as well. (END)
