The Boracay Beach Management Program has celebrated its first anniversary with a seven-kilometer human chain in front beach starting from Station 1 up to Station 3 in the island resort of Boracay off Malay, Aklan.
Sangguniang Bayan member Jonathan Cabrera of the local government unit of Malay, Aklan, said the event were participated by some 3,000 people that included islanders, tourists, municipal and national officials, several private companies, Boracay Foundation Inc. which jointly pooled their effort to ensure that cleanliness prevailed in the world renowned island resort.
The activity, according to Cabrera, also aimed to preserve and protect the environment of the island for the future generation.
Apart from the human chain, other activities included a clean-up drive that demonstrated once again the importance on the spirit of volunteerism among islanders and stakeholders and the strict observance of local ordinance like the anti-smoking and anti-littering campaign being implemented in Boracay island.
The Boracay Beach Management Program was launched last year by Malay Mayor John Yap thru Executive Order No. 032 with the help of the private sector for the protection, sustainability and enhancement of coastal and marine resources in the island resort.
