With the upcoming presidential elections in the United States, Malacanang said on Monday that whoever wins, Manila will continue to have healthy working relationship with Washington, D.C.
“Whatever the result will be, in as far as who will win — whether it’s the incumbent President (Barack) Obama or Governor (Mitt) Romney — and if you look at the history of American and Philippine relations, it is safe to assume that whoever wins, whether it be Republican or Democrat, we will continue the relationship and we will continue to work with them,” said Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte in a press briefing.
The U.S. presidential elections will be held on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).
Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) Secretary Ricky Carandang, in a text message, said the Aquino administration has “good relations” with both the Democrats and Republicans and that the defense cooperation between the two countries will not be affected by the election results.
“The Aquino administration has good relations with Republicans and Democrats and is ready to work closely with whoever is the choice of the American people,” said Carandang.
