The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday advised residents in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) not to indulge too much on fatty foods during the Christmas holidays.
City health officer Florence Reyes explained that many heart ailments, hypertension and other cardio-vascular diseases were traced to unhealthy practice of eating too much pork and other meats.
“Healthy balanced diet keeps us healthy and strong. We have to include in our diet not only meat but also green leafy vegetables, legumes, dairy products and those rich in fiber,” she said.
By tradition, even families with average income always have roasted pig (lechon) as part of their Christmas parties and New Year’s Eve revelries.
