GlaxoSmithKline Wins PMAP Award

Leading British pharmaceutical and healthcare firm, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), recently received from the Philippine Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) two awards for excellent people management, which are deemed the Philippines’ most coveted private-sector recognition in the field of human resources.

The awards for GSK as “Employer of the Year” and to GSK Vice President for Human Resources Lito de Guzman as “People Manager of the Year” were presented during the 34th PMAP Awards Night on October 14.

The back-to-back recognition was a first in the history of PMAP.

Delighted by the honor to the British firm, Ambassador to Manila Stephen Lillie praised GSK for its success and said the awards “are a recognition of GSK’s excellent credentials as an employer.

”They show that this top British company is also very much a part of Philippine society and business, and making a real contribution to the country’s progress.”

Lillie also conveyed personal congratulations to De Guzman.

The British Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (BCCP), of which GSK is a member, likewise expressed pride with the PMAP awards.

BCCP’s Leslie Stokes said the reocognition “is an excellent reflection of their top British multinational companies’ commitment to effectively developing a strong long-term corporate presence in the Philippines.”

GlaxoSmithKline has been present in the Philippines since 1968, one of more than 200 British companies in the country.

The pharmaceuticals firm got the two major awards that are “given only to outstanding corporations and individuals whose leadership, dynamism and professionalism set them apart from the rest,” said the British embassy in Manila.

On the part of GSK-Philippines, its president and managing director, Roberto Taboada, said: “We’re pleased that the PMAP has recognized the high levels of engagement and empowerment of our employees. This award reflects the excellent people we have in GSK Philippines.”

The embassy said that the latest Employee Survey on Empowerment, Values, and Engagement also highlights Taboada’s observation, showing an all-time high for GSK Philippines which surpassed results of other markets in Asia-Pacific.

The survey showed that 98 percent of GSK Philippines’ almost 800 employees said they were proud to be part of GSK.

With headquarters in the UK and more than 99,000 employees in over 100 other countries, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is one of the world’s foremost global research-based pharmaceutical companies. It is considered a leader in the manufacture of vaccines.

The UK-based firm strives to improve the quality of human life by developing new treatments for cancer and producing medicines that treat the following major disease areas -– asthma, virus control, infections, mental health, diabetes and digestive conditions.
