Some 300 children in Lianga, Surigao del Sur and nearby environs, particularly those from hinterland areas, were provided free medical services in joint government and private sector Tuberculosis Prevention and Treatment Program.
Dr. Leo Alfonso, Lianga Municipal Health Officer, said the medical mission of the Lianga Municipal Government, the Philippine Army and Surigao del Sur provincial government medical workers treated the children, who are mostly out of school.
Alfonso said after last Saturday’s anti-TB medical mission, 210 of the children-beneficiaries were placed under the six-month anti-TB treatment. The children will be extended free anti-TB medicines under the program.
Alfonso said the project was conceived after they found the increasing number of children, and even adults, with TB with some already shown symptoms mostly those in hinterland areas in this coastal town.
