Japan’s transport ministry said Tuesday it will launch a Web site for foreign airlines that provides information on the radiation levels of 10 airports in Japan, power supply status and fuel stock levels.
The ministry aims to allay fears over radiation leaks from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, which was ravaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
Information in English and Japanese will be made available by Wednesday. This will be followed by Chinese and Korean within a week.
Some overseas air carriers have reduced services to Japan and ended crew stopovers in Japan due to the unfolding crisis at the nuclear plant of Tokyo Electric Power Co. <9501>.
The ministry hopes the Web site will persuade airlines to maintain their Japan flights.
