Health authorities are closely monitoring the health condition of some 62 flood-affected families that remained settled in an evacuation center here following the death of a 10-month old evacuee on Sunday due to a suspected water-borne disease.
Barangay Labangal chair Lorelei Pacquiao said Monday victim Marian Sumalinog succumbed at around 2 p.m. Sunday at the city district hospital here due to severe complications caused by initial diarrheal symptoms.
She said it was the fourth time that the baby was rushed to the hospital in the last two weeks after suffering from loose bowel movement, fever and other diarrhea-like symptoms.
“We’re still trying to determine the real cause of the baby’s illness but were initially looking at possible water and sanitation problems at the evacuation center as the culprit,” Pacquiao said.
As of Monday, she said at least eight children from the evacuation center at the Labangal gymnasium are currently confined at the city district hospital due to diarrhea-like symptoms.
