The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) on Friday assured the relatives of Grace Saguilot, one of the fire victims recently in Dubai that the Philippine government is helping in her repatriation.
OWWA regional officer Evelyn Laranang said although Saguilot, a resident here, failed to register as member of the OWWA, “we are also considering her as a distressed Filipino national whom we owe all the assistance she needs.”
Earlier reports received by OWWA here indicated an apartment rented by Filipino overseas contract workers in that foreign country was destroyed by fire killing three and injured another three.
Saguilot was one of those who survived the fire but suffered burns needing her to be confined and treated in a hospital in that country.
“The Dubai police is still investigating the cause of the fire. Our Philippine consulate is working for the welfare of those who survived and their eventual repatriation here,” she said.
