Fire in Pasig City, Philippines Claims 6 Lives

Six people — a family of five and their maid — were killed in a fire that destroyed their house in Pasig City early Monday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Text Fire Philippines (TFP) said.

BFP and TFP said the fatalities were trapped inside their burning house on Caliwag St., Barangay Pinagbuhatan at 1 a.m.

The victims were identified as Joseph Edloy, his wife Ana Marie, their children Joanna Marie, 4; Jelaiza, 3; and Brian, 2; and maid Jessica Palermo.

BFP firefighters discovered the charred bodies of the family members hugging each other.

The fire reached the third alarm and spread to about 25 other houses, mostly made of light materials, before it was put out after an hour.

About 50 families lost their homes in the incident. The damage was estimated at P1 million.

Officials said the fire was allegedly caused by a toppled candle in the house of a certain Jeffrey Alano.

Meanwhile, another fire broke out at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Sports Complex in Sampaloc, Manila at 1:45 p.m. Monday. Responding firefighters placed it under control at 2:15 p.m.

Earlier, a fire hit a shantytown near the Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH) in Barangay Bahay Toro, Novaliches, Quezon City at 12:18 p.m. It was put out at 1 p.m.
