Filipino Soldiers Wounded in Combat vs NPA

Two Army soldiers were wounded in a running gunbattle between the Philippine Army and the New People’s Army rebels in the hinterlands of northern Sierra Madre in Barangay Disulap, San Mariano, Isabela on Dec. 15, a military report here said.

Wounded were Corporal Joel Ibos and Private First Class Joel Arce, who sustained multiple arm, chest and shoulder bullet wounds. Both were brought to a hospital in Cauayan City for treatment.

Reports said the platoon-sized 51st Division Reconnaissance Company soldiers met about 40 New People’s Army rebels and fought each other in a 30-minute firefight.

Military soldiers said that they have been attacked by the rebels at about 3 p.m. on Dec. 15 that forced them to retaliate.
