The 135,000-strong Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday joined the entire nation in celebrating the victory of now eight-division world champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao against Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito.
In a statement, PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that while the PNP recorded one robbery incident during the Pacquiao-Margarito fight, the entire nation still experienced a “phenomenal minimal crime rate” during the airing of the championship boxing.
“The PNP joins the entire Filipino nation in triumphant jubilation over the victorious WBC super welterweight title defense of the people’s champion Manny Paqcuiao,” said Cruz.
”By claiming invincibility as the reigning champion in eight boxing divisions, Manny Pacquiao showed magnanimous humility even in this most impressive world sports record of all time,” said Cruz.
Cruz said that while the entire country was hooked to the fight, PNP personnel remained vigilant against criminals.
“Over at the home front, as 90 million Filipinos cheered for their favorite sports hero, the PNP remained steadfast to ensure order and security across the land,” said Cruz.
But, just like in the previous Paqcuiao fights, the PNP recorded “phenomenal” minimal crime rate on Sunday.
