A total of 18 explosive detection devices imported from the United Kingdom (UK) are being installed in all major airports of Pakistan to beef up the existing security arrangements, said an official with the Defense Ministry on Monday.
The official said that the Explosive Detection System (EDS) equipment is imported from the United Kingdom and have been handed over to the Airport Security Force for installation at airports in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
He said the EDS equipment is provided by the Transport Department of the UK under its Security Assistance Program. This assistance program also includes basic training and one year maintenance, he added.
It is reported that both governments of Pakistan and the United Kingdom have also agreed to continue their cooperation in the field of aviation security.
