All the ballot boxes and pertinent documents from the 300 clustered precints in Abra have already been brought to the House of Representatives Election Tribunal (HRET) for recount.
According to Marlon Camata of the Tribunal who supervised the retrieval of the ballot boxes and all pertinent documents relative to the protest, counter protest and common protest of ex-Congresswoman Cecilia S. Luna and incumbent Congresswoman Ma. Jocelyn V. Bernos were finally brought to the HRET.
The ballot boxes and all the other documents have been kept for two weeks at the Bishop’s House for safe-keeping until the retrieval was completed on June 29.
Atty. Vanessa M. Roncal, assistant regional director of the Commission on Elections-Cordillera Administrative Region (COMELEC-CAR) and concurrent Abra Provincial Election supervisor, in her interview over the local radio here, said that the election protest, common protests, and counter protest of Luna and Bernos were filed last year right after the conduct of the May elections.
Roncal explained that the election protests are no longer a COMELEC activity because said protests are now elevated in the House of the Representatives. However, COMELEC is still tasked to provide all the documents that have anything to do with the election in order for the HRET to be able to act on the election protests.
The following municipalities are the subject of protest, common protests and counter protest with the corresponding number of clustered precincts involved.
