Engineers Held in Sudan

Eleven Sudanese engineers and workers who were abducted on Jan. 12 by an armed group in Sudan’s Darfur region have been released, North Darfur State government announced Saturday.

“The Sudanese engineers and workers were released today near Zazam village, some 17 km southwest of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur State,” Mohamed Suleiman Rabih, a local official in the state, told reporters Saturday.

“The release of the abducted came after intensive efforts by the state government during the past two weeks, which resulted first in the release of the Chinese workers earlier and then the Sudanese today,” he added.

A rebel group belonging to a Darfur armed movement on Jan. 12 kidnapped 15 employees of a Chinese company, including four Chinese, near the western salvation highway, El Fasher-Kuma sector.
