A total of 91 candidates for punong barangay (village head) in Negros Occidental are sure winners in the coming Barangay-Sangguniang Kabataan election on Oct. 25 for running unopposed.
The Commission on Election (Comelec) provincial office in Negros Occidental specifically cited the town of Pulupandan as having the most number of candidates for punong barangay running unopposed, reaching 17 bets.
Majority of their supposed rival candidates have withdrawn from the race learning that their opponents were avid supporters of incumbent Pulupandan Mayor Magdaleno Pena. Other candidates were forced to withdraw their candidacy for fear of eviction and their houses demolished if they continue to pursue their candidacy.
Meanwhile, the Comelec, military, Philippine National Police (PNP) and the church jointly pooled their effort reaching out the different municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental for the signing of Peace Covenant among the local candidates to ensure a peaceful and honest election this coming Monday.
