Election in Pangasinan Philippines

There is no cause for alarm.

This was the assurance of Police Provincial Director Senior Supt. Rosueto Ricaforte to the people of Pangasinan who will see additional men in uniform in the streets during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Monday.

Ricaforte said these are members of the more than 100-man augmentation force, composed of policemen and Army soldiers, to be deployed here starting Sunday by the Police Regional Office.

He said the augmentation force will be deployed right away to several areas of the province, particularly to the eight cities and towns placed under the election watch list.

In the watch list based on their previous election-related incidents in the past election are Dagupan and San Carlos cities, Bayambang, Urbiztondo, Sta. Maria, Tayug, Natividad and San Quintin.

He said there was no need to increase the cities and towns placed in the watch list because the reported incidents where some barangay captains and kagawads were killed or wounded were found to be not election-related.

Although there are eight cities and towns in the watch list, Ricaforte is not anticipating any violence to happen before, during and after the elections.

He said he has just ordered all police chiefs to intensify their checkpoint operations and their campaign against loose firearms in all towns and cities of the province.

At the same time, on the eve of the Barangay and SK elections, Ricaforte called on the candidates and their supporters to observe peace and sobriety and not to be carried away by emotions as they all end their campaign midnight of Saturday.
