There are 1,311 informal settlers now facing ejectment cases from private land owners in this city, said Wilfredo Jurilla, chief of City Urban Poor Affairs Office (Icupao).
Out of the said number, Jurilla said 256 families are at risk because their court orders are ready to be served anytime now. Majority of these informal settlers numbering 211 are located at the Montinola property in Baldoza, La Paz district while 45 are currently occupying the property owned by Cecilia Abad in Ingore, also of same district.
Jurilla said he is worrying that there are no available relocation site for these families if court orders will be served to them soon.
The Icupao chief added that he was already informed by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog about this present problem and the mayor said he will purchase two hectares of lot in Barangay Lanit, Jaro district before the year ends.
Jurilla added the city government needs around 10 hectares of land to accommodate these informal settlers who are facing ejectment cases.
The informal settlers could be found in the properties of Macairean in South Fundidor, Molo, 2; Alfonso Tan in Cutchero, Molo, 296; Asia Brewery in Legaspi, Iloilo City proper, 36; Ana Rose in Hibao-an, Mandurriao, 43; Imperial Subdivision owned by Henry Chiu in Lanit, Jaro, 34; Jardeleza Asucena in Guzman Jecena in Mandurriao, 16; Banco de Oro in Bolilao, Mandurriao, 26; Jose Marie Boris in Sooc, Arevalo, 47; and Iloilo Society in South Fundidor, with 36 families.
Also, 74 families are facing ejectment cases in the property owned by RCBC in Tacas, Jaro; Philippine Veteran’s Bank in Hibao-an Norte, Mandurriao, 14; Lucero in Cuartero, Jaro, 14; Susan Young in Ortiz Street, 26; Paciano Villavia in San Isidro, Jaro, 39; Kenneth Ng in Punong Lapuz, 26; Corinthian Subd. in Hibao-an, Mandurriao, 24; Gaisano in Lapuz Norte, 10; Ceres Mean Food Corp. in Sto. Nino Sur, Arevalo, 12; Montero in Taft North, Mandurriao, nine; Ana Arquillo in Compania Central, Molo, 10; and Ligaya Roque in Sourth Funditor, Molo with five families.
