Economic ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations

Economic ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met informally in Myanmar’s new capital of Nay Pyi Taw and touched on the issues related to ASEAN economic community, official media reported Monday.

The 18th ASEAN economic ministers’ informal meeting, chaired by Cambodian Commerce Minister Cham Prasidh, was also attended by delegates from other ASEAN countries, led by ASEAN Secretary-General, representatives from ASEAN embassies and officials of the ASEAN Secretariat, said the New Light of Myanmar.

Participants discussed challenges and weaknesses for forming an ASEAN economic community by 2015 and exchanged views on tasks to be completed by 2012.

The attendees also discussed matters related to cooperation between ASEAN nations to become an ASEAN economic community and promote trade services, investment and private sectors, as well as cooperation between ASEAN and its dialogue partners, and matters related to implementation of the ASEAN framework, the report said.
