Duterte orders troops to ready for intel ops vs terrorists, drug lords
Filipino soldiers mobilized for counter-terror missions and the ongoing war against illegal drugs will have to learn and apply new skills like profiling of bombers and covert operations techniques, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said on Saturday.
“So you have to train more, you have to reinvent yourself from almost a soldier in uniform to all of you being intelligence operatives, President Duterte said in his visit to a military camp in Isabela province.
President Duterte assured soldiers he will protect them when they fight terrorists and drug traffickers.
“Just do what is the mandate of the Constitution, at ako na ang bahala dito sa inyo, sa iba. I will protect you. I will not allow one policeman or one military to go to jail for doing his duty…Do not allow the country to disintegrate,” the President said.
Duterte also said his support to the military includes the latest in equipment and gear. He said he has authorized Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana to procure all that the soldiers need.
“What I can assure you is, for as long as I am President, you will have all equipment and weaponry necessary to win the war, or at least to defeat them in every fight. Hindi kayo maluluma diyan because si Defense Secretary nga binigay ko absolute authority to buy whatever is necessary,” Duterte told the troops in Camp Melchor dela Cruz in Isabela.
The President brought with him to Isabela the three sets of Glock .45 handguns which were to be raffled off. He said the pistols are just the first of many to be issued to all soldiers for their protection and use when they are out in the field on intelligence missions.
“We are doing good with the sniper activity, you learn more about it. At saka iyong mga vest ninyo, sabi ko lahat dapat pagpasok, lalo na iyong mga entry, ‘pag kailangan na. But all of you will be given the… iyong protection sa armor, and of course the weapons that you desire,” Duterte also said. (END)
