A 16-year-old househelp from Barangay Mitugas in Tudela, Misamis Occidental was rescued Tuesday morning from her place of work in Dumaguete City upon her request coursed through the barangay.
The minor, identified as Anna (not her real name), worked as a house help of Nelson and Hilda Sy at Silliman Village, Piapi, this city, since May 2010.
In an interview, the minor claimed she never took hold of her salary since May last year and had to beg from her employers if she had to buy something.
She further claimed that she was promised a P2,000 monthly pay by her recruiter but was told by her employer that she will only receive P1,500 a month.
Anna further claimed that her employer took her mobile phone and SIM card and bought another one that was charged to her monthly pay.
Anna said she wanted to go home because she wanted to enroll in high school this school year.
With the assistance of barangay officials in Piapi headed by village chief Tomasa Amor, representantives of the City Social Welfare Office successfully rescued the minor who is now under their custody. (PNA)
