DOLE assures regular talks with labor groups

MANILA, March 4 (PNA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) assured on Friday that talks and consultations with various labor groups will be regularly held to listen and address their concerns and immediately take action.

Labor Undersecretary Joel Maglunsod made the statement following a picket by members of the Kilusan ng Manggagawang Kababaihan (KMK), Gabriela, and Kilusang Mayo Uno at DOLE Central Office.

“The labor department through the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte will have a regular dialogue with labor groups. We will hear your concerns and together we can build a better community with harmonious relationship between workers and employers. Rest assured that DOLE is always open to listen as we strengthen our efforts in fighting for worker’s rights and dignity,” Maglunsod said.

The protest by militant groups was held to push the labor department to immediately sign the Department Order that will eradicate all forms of contractualization and strictly implement workers’ regularization.

Maglunsod said that since last year, DOLE officials had been doing their best to finalize the order and consult various labor groups, as well as the business sector to get their insights and balance the D.O. for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Maglunsod also lauded the unity of women’s group in presenting their issues through peaceful assembly and urged them to designate representatives who will convey the concerns of women workers directly to the labor department.

“We need to be united and continue fighting for our rights. President Duterte said that we should talk at least once every three months. Your representatives will be regularly coordinating with DOLE. We will do our best under the law to implement these labor standards and push for the regularization of Filipino workers,” he said. (PNA)
