Defense officials from 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries and their eight dialogue partners met Tuesday for a working group meeting in Vietnam’s central highland Dalat city, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh said at the meeting that he expected the meeting to implement decisions reached at first ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus) held in Hanoi earlier this year.
Vinh highlighted five prioritized areas in regional defense cooperation including humanitarian aid and disaster rescue, maritime security, anti-terrorism, military medicine and peace- keeping operations.
Vinh proposed countries within the ADMM-Plus framework to carry out further study on enhancing regional cooperation in these five areas.
Vinh also called for more efforts to establish Expert Working Group under the framework of ADMM-Plus in 2011.
