Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to rid Davao City streets of “usu-uso” (modified engine) passenger jeepneys to ensure the safety of pedestrians and riding public here.
Speaking in the Sunday’s public affairs program, “Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa Pinobre Edition,” he categorically said the “usu-uso” passenger jeepney business is dead.
Duterte said that the “usu-uso” as a modified vehicle with small chassis and big engine poses danger on the streets.
“Tapos na ang inyong adlaw (Your days are ended). It’s either we phase out or we look for legal remedies to get rid of you,” he said.
Duterte also urged local transport groups to heed the call of the government with the strict imposition of the traffic regulations, as the city residents mourned for the 10 persons killed in the vehicular accident involving an “usu-uso” passenger jeepney at the national highway, Bago Aplaya two weeks ago.
He dared those who defy the current action of government to file a case in court.
Duterte said the 30-kilometer-per-hour speed limit within the city must be strictly followed by all vehicles, either public utility, privately-owned or by the government.
“If you disagree with us, you file a case in court. Do not outsmart the government,” he dared. (PNA) – scs/Joey Sem G. Dalumpines/lvp
