The number of persons evacuated due to storm surge and rise of tidal water when Typhoon “Pedring” struck Dagupan City Tuesday now rose to 1,454 as of 8 a.m. Wednesday.
A report of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) showed that 11 evacuation centers were set up with the Sabangan Elementary School and the North Central Elementary School, both in Bonuan Gueset, having the biggest number of evacuees.
Some of the evacuees were sheltered at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome, the Pedro Ceralde Elementary School in Bonuan Binloc, Bacayao Sur Elementary School and the Mormon’s Church in Arellano-Bani.
It is not yet certain when these evacuees will return to their homes as the water in several areas may yet rise due to the expected moderate to heavy rains today.
Although the flash flood already subsided in many areas of Dagupan, the city anticipates another rise of tidal water from adjacent rivers.
Officials earlier confirmed that it was storm surge and the high tide combined that brought flash flood in many streets of Dagupan last Tuesday, including the city’s downtown area and the city hall.
