The child abuse case against a high-ranking Cebu Church official filed in the United States has been resolved more than 20 years ago, Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal said.
Msgr. Vidal said he has talked with Msgr. Cristobal Garcia and quoted him as saying ”I was okay. Just suffered a little. The damage has been done. The Lord will restore everything.”
He also said he was puzzled on Holy See’s ongoing investigation on the case and on media reports that portrayed that the Church “has done nothing” about Garcia’s case.
The 81-year-old prelate, who served as Cebu’s archbishop for almost three decades, said he did not know why Garcia’s old case is being reviewed by the Holy See.
“I do not know what triggered the probe,” the cardinal said.
Cardinal Vidal said he has all the documents regarding the transfer of Msgr. Garcia from the Dominican congregation in the US to the Archdiocese of Cebu.
”I have already institutionalized his incardination 20 years ago,” Cardinal Vidal said adding that he was happy that Garcia was accepted in the archdiocese.
