Comelec Bans 15 Party-List Groups

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has disqualified 15 party-list groups, including one incumbent and three applicants seeking accreditation, from running in next May’s polls.

The Comelec en banc delisted party-list Kapatiran ng mga Nakakulong na Walang Sala (Kakusa) whose incumbent representative at the House of Representatives is Ranulfo Canonigo.

This brings the number of delisted incumbent party-list groups to five.

Applicants seeking accreditation but were denied include RAM Guardians, Alyansa para sa Demokrasya, and Association of Airline and Airport Workers.

The poll body also disqualified AGRI, AKMA, PTM, AKO AGILA, AKO BAHAY BANTAY, PACYAW, PM, MASDA, COFA, ARARO, KATUTUBO and OPO.

Under Republic Act 7941 or the Party-list System Act, nominees running under the party-list system must belong to the “marginalized and under-represented sectors.”

The poll body earlier disqualified four incumbent party-list groups — Ako Bicol, Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives (APEC), 1st Consumers Alliance for Rural Energy (1-CARE), and Aangat Tayo.
