Sri Lanka is currently experiencing a spell of unusually cold weather with temperatures dropping below 20 degrees celsius, weather officials said Thursday.
The officials said that the island has come under a cloud cover in the La Nina effect which causes the lowering of sea surface temperature.
The temperature in the capital Colombo was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius Thursday morning, officials said. The usual temperature in the city hovers around high twenty and low thirty degrees
S.B. Samarasinghe the weather department chief said that the cold weather conditions may ease off in a few days.
He said the weather pattern in the island has seen a drastic transformation.
