Officials of the Liga ng mga Barangay in this municipality were all smiles upon receiving valuable Christmas gifts from Gov. David “jayjay” Suarez during the community’s Paskuhan 2011 held at the Municipal Covered Court here on Friday, Dec. 23.
Mayor Angel T. Ardiente Jr said that at the Christmas celebration, Suarez turned over to the Liga, composed of 54 barangay chairmen, construction materials and motorized boats equipped with fishing gadgets.
Ardiente said Suarez also distributed assorted goods to town residents and gave 30 sacks of rice to each of the barangay chairmen for distribution to residents in their respective barangays.
Provincial Agriculturist Roberto Gajo said the occasion also formally launched the Mariculture Project in Barangay Sisi, through “Serbisyong Suarez,” to enable Guinyuangan residents to engage in the cultivation of plant species (genus ‘Targetes’ and genus ‘Calohortus’), both tropical in southwestern United States and Mexico.
Gajo said the plant species, the likes of Marigold, bear flowers with showy yellow or orange color, and Maripoza having variously colored tuliplike flowers sometimes called Maripoza tulips, are suited for cultivation with the town’s climate.
Thru this livelihood project, town residents can earn additional income both from local sales and exports of the the product, he said.
In San Antonio town, Suarez also distributed assorted goodies to the Liga ng mga Barangay during its Christmas Party held Dec. 19 at the Municipal Covered Court.
Mayor Aniano “Ariel” Wagan Jr said the gift-giving activity highlighted the celebration of Christmas by the Liga ng mga Barangay in the municipality.
In the town of Tiaong, some 2, 000 women-members of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (Kalipi) enjoyed celebrating the Yuletide with Governor Suarez as guest of honor and speaker.
Mayor Raul S. Umali said Tiaong’s Paskuhan 2011, was held simultaneously with the farmers association at the town plaza on Dec. 16.
Umali said Suarez assured the farmers of full support and allocation of projects for Tiaong’s agriculture sector through the ‘Serbisyong Suarez as Agrikultura’ program.
In Lucena City, the provincial governor distributed assorted goodies to more than 3, 000 children during the Children’s Day and Gift-giving, sponsored by the provincial government held at the Quezon Convention Center here on Dec. 9.
Mayor Barbara Ruby Talaga said the governor and First Lady Anna V. Suarez and daughter Athalia led the distribution of gifts to the children of Lucena, especially those from the depressed areas.
