Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia extended the time of use by motorists of the Capitol compound’s access road from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. to ease traffic in the area.
The Cebu provincial government’s gates will also be opened on Saturdays and Sundays at the same schedule.
Garcia said it was purely her executive decision and the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Cebu City need not be amended.
She said she had given the instruction to security consultant Cesar Veloso last week.
She had seen the heavy traffic last week, when the governor left her office a little before 7 p.m. She then decided to extend for an hour the use of the access road.
Garcia agreed to open the Capitol compound as temporary access both for public and private vehicles to prevent congestion at the Don Gil Garcia St., where there’s an on-going road-widening project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Cebu City District Engineering Office.
Garcia set four conditions for allowing the use of the Capitol’s access road. For smooth flow of traffic, Citom will be given full authority to supervise the entry and exit of all vehicles. Security personnel may assist the Citom.
