Cargo Struck Sideswipes Davao Bystanders

Five persons died while four others were injured seriously after an out-of-controlled cargo truck sideswiped a group of bystanders in New Carmen, Tugbok District, Davao City Saturday afternoon, the police reported.

Senior Supt. Ronald Dela Rosa, Davao City Police chief, said the accident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. when an Isuzu cargo truck (GED-452) driven by Delmar Camanse, 23, lost its brakes and hit nine bystanders in the area, which is near a dumpsite.

Five of the bystanders were killed instantly. They were identified as Patricio Daclan, of Sitio Tandawan, Barangay Magtuod, Davao City; Aurello Lanutan, of Purok 2, New Carmen, Tugbok District; Rey Hain, of Matina, Davao City; Guillermo Batac, 65, of New Carmen; and Romeo Dora, 45, also of New Carmen.

Injured and undergoing treatment at the Southern Philippines Medical Center were Jessie Dela Torre, 19; Felipe Magallanes,62; Mandayumpa Suhay,49; and Jerry Enanod, 34.
