The Butuan city government led by Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. turned-over about P4 million-worth of communication, office and mobility equipment during the flag-ceremony Monday morning.
The activity was attended by top city police officials led by Butuan City Director PSSupt. Nerio T. Bermudo and the station commanders of the five city police stations. Turned over were three Mitsubishi Mirage cars,eight Yamaha motorcycles, two Honda motorcycles, eight computer sets, 40 hand-held radios, four base radios, one generator set, five back-up batteries for the radios and four antennas.
S/Supt. Bermudo, during his message for the occasion, mentioned that more equipment such as a pick-up truck and stun guns for the field trainee personnel (FTPs) were also promised by the Butuan City LGU as future donations.
The police director challenged his officers and personnel to take it as a challenge to make Butuan a peaceful and orderly city having been a recipient of such sizable donation from the host LGU. He called on his police personnel to be efficient, effective and capable performers of their duties and ensure specially the forthcoming election to be secure and fair.
Mayor Amante, in his message as the guest of honor and speaker, said the city government had realized the importance of how it should support its police."We envisioned the Butuan City Police to become the best city police office in the country," he said.
He also said that though the city became a hot spot in the country because of varied forms of criminality and illegal activities such as illegal logging, gambling, insurgency, drugs, trafficking of person and other forms, may this become a greater challenge on the part of the police and the public in general to aim for its eradication.
