Business Firms in Jolo, Sulu Hit by Fire

A four-hour fire broke out and burned down some P40 million worth of properties Thursday night in Jolo, the capital of the province of Sulu.

Sulu police director Senior Supt. Antonio Freyra said the fire broke out around 9 p.m. Thursday at Gen. Arolas Street in downtown Jolo.

Freyra said the fire razed down a commercial complex comprising 320 stalls of textile and other clothing materials, shoes and other dry goods as well as pawnshops.

The fire started in one of the stalls along Gen. Arolas Street and spread towards Moralla Street, Freyra said.

He said firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) extinguished the fire around 1 a.m. Friday as they were only equipped with two fire trucks.
