I don’t really know the legal details of alleged breach contract of Bob Arum of Top Rank or the alleged contract unfaithfulness of Nonito Donaire Jr. Some people are saying that Donaire has a big head now or is envious of Manny Pacquiao or that he is too in a hurry to climb the pinnacle of success. Whatever it is, the next fight of pound-for-pound elite Nonito Donaire, one of Filipino’s best boxers in the world today, will be promoted by Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar dela Hoya. Here’s the details of the news.
by Nick Giongco of Manila Bulletin – Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), the Oscar De La Hoya-owned company that took Filipino-American sensation Nonito Donaire away from archrival Top Rank, is determined to pursue a May 28 show headlined by their prized acquisition.
GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer told on-line edition of The Ring magazine that finding an ideal opponent for somebody like Donaire won’t pose any problems.
“Basically, when you have one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world, you’re never going to run out of potential opponents,” Schaefer, who is De La Hoya’s right-hand man, told ace scribe Michael Rosenthal.
Plan is to showcase Donaire in front of his many adoring fans in the San Francisco Bay Area but GBP has yet to name his foe and the venue of Donaire’s much-awaited return following his breath-taking second round demolition of Fernando Montiel of Mexico last month.
Donaire told Filipino reporters early this week that “the May 28 date is an HBO date (and not a Top Rank date).”
