Bottled Water for Babies in Tokyo

The Tokyo metropolitan government said Wednesday that it will provide bottled water to households with infants.

The move comes after the metropolitan government said earlier in the day that it has found tap water at a purifying facility that contained more than double the permissible level of radioactive iodine-131 for infants.

The metropolitan government plans to give out three 500-milliliter bottles per infant, totaling 240,000 bottles, in Tokyo’s densely populated 23 wards and five suburban cities where it has advised that infants not be given tap water.

The metropolitan government will start delivery to the wards and suburban cities Thursday morning.
