Caraga police regional director Chief Supt. Reynaldo S. Rafal belied news report ( not the PNA) that some 60 suspected NPA rebels disarmed three bodyguards of a town mayor in Agusan del Sur Saturday morning.
Rafal said that the NPA actually disarmed civilian residents of Barangay San Patricio, Lapaz, Agusan del Sur at 6:10 a.m. Saturday and not bodyguards of Lapaz town mayor.
He said that the insurgents, headed by certain Kumander Yomad of Front Committee 88 of the CPP/NPA/NDF, seized two homemade shotguns and one .38 cal revolver from the civilians.
The disarming incident was part of the propaganda activities of the rebels operating in the area, he said.
New reports had it that about 60 NPA rebels swooped down Barangay San Patricio, Lapaz, Agusan del Sur at about 6 a.m. Saturday and looked for certain Kikoy Mondejar, a resident of said barangay.
As they searched for Mondejar, they chanced three armed bodyguards of the mayor and disarmed them.
The report said the NPA confiscated from certain Bugoy Pajarillo one homemade shotgun and a .38 cal. revolver pistol from certain Bobby Plana.
It said that suspected NPA rebels also confiscated two pairs of shoes from a soldier belonging to 26th IB Philippine Army, who was in said barangay during the alleged NPA raid.
