Benguet News: Some 100 residents here who lost their houses and lots in the biggest landslide in the area in 2009 due to typhoon “Pepeng” remain waiting for final relocation sites.
Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan said the group was not among the beneficiaries of awarded lots last Monday by Vice President Jejomar Binay.
He said that there was already a relocation site declared by the previous administration in Barangay Tawang here but land claimants have already filed for the nullification of a presidential proclamation issued for that purpose.
“We have to hold more dialogues with the claimants because as alleged they were buyers in good faith of the area prior to the proclamation,” he said.
The displaced families were former residents of Barangay Poguis here — a community erased from its former site of a mountain side when it collapsed after an unprecedented rainfall was churned by the typhoon which entered the area for three times.
