Ban firecrackers and pyrotechnics in the Philippines

Municipal Mayor Greg Abalos Thursday said he asked the municipal council to pass the appropriate measure to totally ban firecrackers and pyrotechnics in celebrating the forthcoming Christmas holidays.

Abalos said that he supports the view of the city government of Baguio that the old practice of celebrating Christmas and New Year for years only caused injuries to persons and contributed in the pollution of the air.

The mayor said that the move of Baguio will prevent the displaced firecracker vendors from that city to instead relocate their business in this peaceful capital town which is mostly preoccupied with its multi-million peso agriculture industry.

He has already warned the prospective firecracker vendors not to violate the intended ban once it become effective as the full force of the law shall be applied to them.
