“Backroom Deals” in government projects

President Benigno S. Aquino lll’s administration assured the public and investors that there will be no “backroom deals” in government projects so as to attract more foreign and domestic investment opportunities in the country through Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

At a press briefing in Malacanang, Department of Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said there are 10 projects ready for bidding next year.

“We will come up with an initial list of 100 projects, of which about 10 will be ready for bidding next year,” Purisima said.

“We’d like to emphasize that we will not be bidding out projects as we are doing feasibility studies on the projects.

“It’s important to learn from lessons in the past that we need to do our homework and do this in a transparent manner. Everything will be done in broad daylight and no midnight and backroom deals,” he added.

A conference titled “Infrastructure Philippines” will be held next week at the Marriott Hotel.

Purisima said the conference will focus on tourism, infrastructure and food and supply chain projects.

On infrastructure, Public Works Sec. Rogelio Singson said the DPWH will focus on upgrading nationals roads in “safety and qualityā€¯.
