“Media has played a vital role in transforming the society”, said Nepali Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal here on Thursday.
Khanal made the remarks while inaugurating the 40th Asian Broadcasting Union (ABU) News Group meeting at a special program in the capital Kathmandu.
Khanal said televisions were the effective means to ensure access of illiterate people to information and community in the country.
ABU is the umbrella organization of the national broadcasters of 26 countries established to facilitate the development of broadcasting and to exchange information on the latest developments in broadcasting.
“I thank ABU for its support and contributions during the time of political transformation of 2006,” he added.
Speaking at the same occasion, Minister for Information and Communication Agni Prasad Sapkota said the government has been guaranteeing press freedom for the professional development of television medium and journalism.
